What you will do
- Stop 1
Step into a hidden studio in Florence’s Oltrarno district, surrounded by antique presses and shelves full of prints, and discover one of the most fascinating techniques in Florentine artistic tradition. Here, amid the scent of ink and paper, you’ll be welcomed by artisans who preserve and pass down the art of intaglio printmaking.
This experience brings you closer to a craft that has remained largely unchanged over time, where every step requires precision, care and rhythm.
You’ll begin with a visit to the studio, observing original prints dating from the 17th to the 19th century and discovering the evolution of aquatint. Then you’ll take part in the process yourself: preparing the plate, following the inking stages and using a traditional etching press to print the image onto paper.
What you’ll take home (beyond your print): More than just an artwork, you’ll gain an understanding of an ancient process and learn to appreciate the value of gesture, time and materials in artistic creation. This experience offers a deeper insight into art history, transforming a technical process into something tangible and personal.
