Overview
Far from the usual guided tours, this experience is led by a local sommelier from Lyon and takes place entirely on the Croix-Rousse plateau, away from the tourist trail.
As we stroll through the old Canuts district, you'll discover the history of the silk weavers who shaped it, and together we'll choose, from the neighborhood's artisans, the products for our tasting.
The walk ends in one of the city's oldest wine cellars, where a true wine workshop begins. There, you'll learn to taste wine simply, to pair it with the specialties gathered along the way, and even to try deliberately mismatched pairings, so you can discover your own preferences and understand the principles that guide a sommelier.
As you leave, you'll receive a guide to my favorite Lyon addresses, including restaurants, wine bars and places to visit, so the experience continues throughout your stay.

What you will do
- Stop 1
During this two-hour food walk on the Croix-Rousse plateau, your sommelier helps you experience the neighborhood like a local: you taste and learn rather than simply sightsee.
We meet at the Gros Caillou for a panoramic view over the city, then cross Place de la Croix-Rousse and the Grande Rue, the village's old shopping street. Along the way, your sommelier introduces each Lyonnais specialty as you taste it and tells you the story of the neighborhood's former inhabitants, the Canuts, Lyon's silk weavers.
We choose our charcuterie at the butcher's, taste the famous pink praline at Maison Pralus and select our cheeses at the cheese shop, slipping away from the main street through the plateau's quiet backstreets.
The experience ends at Cave Tabareau with a genuine wine workshop, where you'll learn to look at, smell and taste a selection of Rhône Valley wines, understand their terroir and pair them with the products gathered along the way. You'll leave knowing the capital of gastronomy like a true connoisseur!
Meeting point
End point: Meeting point: the Gros Caillou, the large boulder that's become a Croix-Rousse landmark, up on the panoramic terrace at the top of the hill, right next to Croix-Rousse metro station (line C). Look for a red bag, you'll spot your guide easily!
