Sun, festivals or quiet streets? Here's how Spain changes through the year, and which season suits the trip you have in mind.

Spain is a year-round destination, but the experience changes a lot with the seasons. Here's a simple guide to help you choose.

Spring (March to May)

For many travellers, this is the best time to visit. The weather is warm but not hot, the countryside is green, and cities like Seville and Granada are full of orange blossom. Spring is also festival season: Holy Week (Semana Santa) and Seville's April Fair are unforgettable, but book early because hotels fill up fast. Spring is perfect for our Andalusia tours and for walking the Camino de Santiago.

Summer (June to August)

Summer is the time for the coast and the islands. Mallorca, Ibiza, the Costa del Sol and Valencia are at their best, with long days and warm sea water. Inland cities such as Seville, Córdoba and Madrid can be very hot in July and August, so plan sightseeing for the morning and evening. If you love mountains, northern Spain stays fresh and green, which makes summer ideal for hiking in the Picos de Europa.

Autumn (September to November)

September and October are a hidden gem. The sea is still warm, the crowds have gone home and prices start to drop. It's also harvest time in wine regions like Rioja. Autumn works well for almost every tour, from city breaks to island escapes.

Winter (December to February)

Winter is quiet, affordable and surprisingly sunny in the south. Málaga and Seville often enjoy mild days, and the Canary Islands stay warm all year, which makes Tenerife a great winter escape. It's also a good season for museums and food in Madrid and Barcelona, with shorter queues at the big sights.

Our tip

If you can travel in spring or autumn, you'll get the best mix of weather, prices and space. And if you're planning a trip for your company, these shoulder seasons also offer better availability for groups.
